Shhhh! Let the Kid Talk

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to effortlessly achieve their goals and lead fulfilling lives? Well, one secret lies in nurturing dreams from a young age. By allowing our dreams to drive our desires and guide our next steps, we not only pave the way for a successful business but also set ourselves up for a truly successful life. So, let's dive in and explore this fascinating journey of dreams and entrepreneurship!

Let Dreams Drive

From the time we're kids, we're encouraged to dream big. Whether it’s aspiring to become an astronaut, a rockstar or even the President, our dreams fuel our imagination and ignite the embers of our passions. They give us a sense of purpose, a direction to strive for. From the time my Husfriend Jesse can remember, he has wanted to be an engineer or a chef. I’ve always known I wanted to be a communicator of some sort.

But something tragic happens as we grow older, societal pressures, practicality, “head chatter” also known as self-doubt often creep in, brushing aside those dreams as invalid or unworthy of pursuit. I’ve sure been guilty of this more times that I care to admit! I have allowed the doubtful voice to drown out the sassy, high-risk tolerant, nomad wannabe, word salad artist little girl inside. I want to apologize to her. She deserved expression. She deserved understanding.

A Visionary Discussion

Recently, my Husfriend Jesse and I were discussing our Q3 goals, reassessing some plays we made earlier this year and going over our next steps toward the vision we have for the next 5-10 years for our business.

As we were discussing details of the plan, I could see it clearly and my heart leapt. I thought “I can’t wait to look back on this moment once it’s done to appreciate where we had to start.” We know that feeling well. Every day, we are in awe and give thanks for this business that came together so well because we had an idea. There’s no better feeling than betting on yourself time and again. And it works out time and again. But that’s what you must know as an entrepreneur – that it will work out. Time and again. It's that unwavering passion and determination that keeps us going, even in the face of challenges. Every successful business started with a dream.

Defying Self-Doubt

So often we talk ourselves out of believing that it will. We allow the “head chatter” to override the dreamer, the driver. Here's the thing: dreams are not meant to be suppressed; they are meant to be nurtured and cherished. When we nourish our dreams from a young age, they become powerful motivators that shape our desires, drive our actions, and steer us toward a fulfilling life. By embracing our dreams, we unlock the door to endless possibilities and unleash the full potential within us.

By nature, we are designed to be dreamers and to see dreams fulfilled as a part of your pathway to joy and fulfillment in life. Many times, we brush the desires off as frivolous, unworthy. But those dreams should drive what we desire in life and guide our next steps.

Aligning Aspirations and Values

Entrepreneurship, driven by our dreams, allows us to align our personal and professional aspirations. It enables us to create a business that not only thrives but also reflects our values and passions. By pursuing our dreams, we infuse our work with purpose, leading to a deeper sense of fulfillment and satisfaction.

Additionally, nurturing dreams from a young age instills a mindset of resilience, creativity, and adaptability. As entrepreneurs, we face numerous obstacles, setbacks, and pivots along the way. However, when we've been fostering our dreams since childhood, we develop the ability to overcome adversity and find innovative solutions to problems. We become more adaptable and open to change, essential qualities in the fast-paced world of business.

This and That

But remember, nurturing dreams isn't just about achieving business success. It's about leading a well-rounded, fulfilling life. When we allow our dreams to guide us, we create a harmonious balance between work and personal goals. Our dreams become the compass that steers us toward holistic success, encompassing both professional accomplishments and personal happiness. Instead of settling for success in this or that area, we must pursue it relentlessly in this and that area of our lives.

Believe in your dreams, my friend, and allow them to unleash the power within you. The journey may not always be easy, but with unwavering dedication and a sprinkle of imagination, you can make those dreams a reality. Let your dreams soar high and watch as they transform not only your business but your entire life into something remarkable.

I shared in one of my previous blogs that I recently served as the commencement speaker for Clinton Elementary School’s 5th grade graduation program. In my speech, I read a The Graduate Poem by Niki Alling. I believe it can be applied broadly and is worth repeating here:

No matter which road you choose

No matter how long it may seem

Let your heart be your guide along the way

If you want to fulfill your dreams,

No matter the detours, the road blocks or dark nights,

Continue your heart’s desire.

Lift up your torch, and don’t be afraid

To set the world on fire.

You are the light of a new day,

Shine for all to see.

Carry your knowledge from this day forward

Blaze a trail for history.

NO ONE will ever be quite like you

Remember this important truth.

We all have a purpose in this life

And it begins in our youth

Who you are now and who you will become

Is determined by your soul.

And with your dreams in your heart, to lead the way,

You can conquer any goal!

To the Little Dreamer Within

That is the spirit we all should carry. So, to that spirited, risk-embracing, nomad wanderer, eloquent little wordsmith that grew up, I just want to say: “The floor is all yours.”
